Service Learning
Service-learning is an essential component of the educational experience in Maryland. Students are required to complete a minimum of 75 hours of service-learning during their time in school. In Caroline County, students complete school-based projects during grades 3-9. In middle and high school, students complete some hours on their own through individual projects.

Clubs & Activities
National Junior Honor Society
Membership in LMS’s chapter of NJHS is open to those students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Standards for selection are established by the national office of NJHS.
Students in the second semester of sixth or seventh grade are eligible for membership. Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better on a 4.0 scale are invited to apply. A faculty council, appointed by the principal, considers the applicants and determines which students will be invited to join.
A formal induction ceremony is held at the school to recognize all newly selected members. Once inducted, members are required to maintain the same level of performance in all five areas of evaluation that led to their selection. This obligation includes regular attendance at chapter meetings, held monthly during the school year, and participation in the chapter service learning project(s). In addition, students will be responsible for $15 dues per year. Students or parents who have questions regarding the selection process or membership obligations can contact the chapter advisors Mrs. Laura Breeding and Ms. Jennifer DeVore at Lockerman Middle School (410) 479-2760.
Orchestra Club
Orchestra Club meets each Wednesday from 2:45 – 4:00 in the band room. This club is open to both beginners and students who have experience playing an instrument. The club leader is Martha Mancuso.

Dress Code
LMS enforces a dress code to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment. The dress code applies to all students who are on school premises during regular school hours or at a school-sponsored activity.
Dress code requirements include:
All clothing should be neat and clean.
All students shall not wear clothing that is unduly revealing such as low cut tops, halters tops, tank tops, tops that leave a bare midriff, see-though tops, or spaghetti straps.
Tights, leggings, and stretch pants type bottoms must be worn with clothing long enough to cover the buttocks in both the front and back of the body.
Heavy coats and back packs must be kept in lockers during the school day.
Skirts and dresses should be at least fingertip length.
Shorts should be mid-thigh in length with an inseam of at least 4 inches.
All clothing should be hemmed, any rips or tears must be below fingertip length.
If a student is in violation of the dress code, they will report to the office with a minor incident report. Parents will be contacted to bring in a change of clothes. Once the issue has been resolved, students will be returned to class. Repeated dress code violations will result in a disciplinary referral.
